(And How to Make 2020 Be the Year They Stick!)
The new year is just around the corner and to make it even more special, we’re walking into a new decade! Now, just about everyone makes new year resolutions. I’m going to lose weight. I’m going to the gym more. I’m going to find a great new job. I’m going to get my finances in order. These are all fantastic goals and we should always be working to improve ourselves! The problem is that a lot of these resolutions fail and there are a few simple reasons why. Today, we’re going to talk about the changes you can make so you can make the most out of 2020 and reach all of the goals you’ve been dreaming of!
Make Sure Your Goals Are Attainable
You probably learned about how to properly set goals when you were in school but many of us don’t apply those methods to our real life. Setting SMART goals (specific, measurable, attainable, relevant and time oriented) is a surefire way to really pinpoint what you’re wanting to achieve. For example, if you’re looking to change careers you could set a goal like “I’m going to work on an online course three times a week and complete it by April 1st.”
Making sure your goals are specific doesn’t leave you room to wiggle out of it, which is frequently what happens when we make vague goals.
Make Small Changes Instead of Trying to Do Everything At Once
It’s easy to say you’re going to work out 5 times a week, but if you haven’t worked out more than twice in the last month it’s probably going to be more difficult than you anticipate. Instead, start small. Plan twice a week for the first week or set a goal to try one new type of exercise you’re interested in. By keeping the habit changes small, you can then build on them making the changes more sustainable for the long term.
Find Joy in Your Goals
Don’t just set goals because you think that’s what you should be doing. If you’re working at a retail job and want to switch to an accounting job, think about whether accounting would bring you joy or if you’re just doing it because it seems simple. If you’re wanting to work out more, make it more joyful for you. Buy a really pretty water bottle that you’ll be excited to use or try out a new product like our CBD Gym Fit Cream that you’re itching to add to your routine. The excitement and comfort of incorporating things you love into your goals will make you more likely to follow through.
It can be a disappointing feeling to know that you’ve failed at hitting the goals and resolutions you set for yourself but by making sure your goals are realistic, that you’re taking it slow and truly working to find the excitement in the goals you’ve set for yourself, you’ll be on the fast track to success and to living the life you see yourself in! Try it this year and see what happens, we’re sure you’ll be pleasantly surprised!
